Home with Hope & the Hobgoblin

We just wanted to connect to let you know that it’s been a good week for the Moser Twins.

Julie’s triumph return from Phase I of Camp Kickass has provided us with a chance to pour over cards, videos, e-mails and other bat signals of encouragement and love. We’ve taken this time to rest and breathe, and return to the mundane essentials of life (E.g. obeying Alvin’s commands).

Close encounters with the weird kind.
Happy to be home!

We met with Dr. Hayes (Julie’s oncologist) on Wednesday in Lebanon. We are so fond of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock team and grateful to Dr. Hayes’ for being comforting, clear-spoken and positive, and the news was good:

  • We are looking at an intensive treatment-toward-a-CURE plan. This will take approximately a full year, though it may extend out a bit depending on… “everything” is the mantra the hospital uses.

  • This timeframe includes a bone marrow transplant later this summer or early fall, followed by a long recovery period. And this will be Julie’s “cure.” (The medical team is so optimistic about this that they will do a three-month follow-up bone marrow biopsy, but likely won’t do another one again until year two or three. They’ll use routine blood work to monitor any issues.)

  • Our next hurdle is another (4th!) bone marrow biopsy to see if Julie can go straight into the consolidation phase or needs to go through induction again. If she does, it does NOT impact her prognosis and chance for a cure, it’s just another goal to conquer. We’ll know more in a week or two.

Julie’s mom made us a board that we’ve put up in our room so one of the first things Jules sees when she wakes up are the cards she’s received from you folks. She surrounds herself with angel figurines, crystals, artwork, and totems of love you’ve sent. You’re all woven tightly into the fabric of our life and Julie’s recovery. I honestly can’t thank you enough.

Love you all,

Randy
