Think Pink, Dream Big, Believe in Hope & Love

Time has been kind to our family of misfits.

We’ve had long, good days of listening to Julie’s playlist, which might be Public Image Limited one minute and Explosions in the Sky or Miles Davis the next.

The minute she returned home (or, rather, right after Alvin assaulted her), Julie reached for her guitar, eager to play. I had to remind her that she was working on new leather skin so fresh that she still hasn’t grown back fingerprints (none of her Apple products recognize her touch anymore), but as revenge she’s been playing the wimpiest music ever whined out. I’ve got to confess that it’s nice to hear songs that don’t make the theory of slamming your head into a wall seem attractive.

Music is time, man, so this is how you slow things down – one beat at a time – and we have appreciated this opportunity to take a breath.

As you folks know, Julie’s biopsy is definitively scheduled for March 9th. This also sets an absolute newsroom deadline of March 17th for her return to Lebanon for a multi-day overnight stay. If she has signs of cancer in her marrow, she’ll go back to phase one (the four-week induction) and if it’s within whatever margin they want to see, she’ll go on for consolidation chemo (which only lasts a week), but the date is set now.

Julie has been taking a page from the Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi, lightly working out with the ancient Bowflex, doing chair yoga, sending the sausage dog off to devour deadbeat cells, and disciplining her body, mind and soul. We’re hopeful that the bone biopsy next week leads to the short five-day consolidation process and not another induction of four weeks, but whatever the outcome… more fabulous kicking of the ass of leukemia will be done!

Love you all,

Randy
