Camp Kickass Log, DHMC-Lebanon, Stardate 2122021

In a fortunate turn of events, the Kickass warrior known as Julie who is battling leukemia has mystified her doctors. Here is what they transmitted to us tonight:

  • Julie’s response to the leukemia has been “unusually enthusiastic” in that they have never seen such a positive, quick response
  • As of yesterday, there are zero leukemia cells in Julie’s blood or bones.
  • Because of this, she gets to come home this weekend for two weeks before beginning the next phase of chemo

Here is what’s next and how we’re feeling:

  • In two weeks Julie will get another bone marrow biopsy before beginning what is called the consolidation phase, which is one week in the hospital followed by time home to recover, and this is repeated for a number of rounds (exact # TBD, estimated rounds is 6). Without this second phase, the leukemia would for sure start it’s advance again. Following this she may need a bone marrow transplant, which is 3 weeks in the hospital followed by recovery time.
  • Holy smokes! We are stunned and elated. Although the road ahead is long and there will be challenges, this is the best possible news we could have received.
  • Julie definitely gave her all at Camp Kickass phase 1, and yet… the care she has received at DHMC, the outpouring of love, prayers, good vibes, music suggestions, poems, letters and cards, online posts, stories about the Kool Aid kid and fever dreams, memes, support from her employer and co-workers, and other forms of communication and love definitely were central players in this first step. We can’t thank you enough and this love will help carry us to phase two.

To quote Captain James Tiberius Kirk (because Julie is a total Star Trek dork): steady as she goes!
Stay tuned for the next episode and thank you all again!!!!!
