January 24th

This is the third day of Julie’s treatment and today is the last day she will receive the medication daunorubicin (or doxorubicin, maybe). (This treatment is commonly called 7+3.) We un-affectionately refer to this medication as ‘Donnie’ because normal people cannot pronounce or remember this name.

(We’re thinking of it as Donnie Osmond, mostly because we think of the famous performer as being essentially harmless (although possibly a little toxic). A few years back, remember, he revamped his career by doing shirtless videos and I think his nipples were even air-bushed out like a Ken doll.)

She will have four more days on chemo (I believe cytarabine), and then the rest of her time during this first phase will be recovery mode: Trying to eat, receiving meds to fight infection and stave off sickness, getting transfusions as necessary, and concentrating on seeing through to the light (of our home, garden, and seeing people she loves again).

Right now she’s getting around (doing laps around the nursing station like a real-life Wonder Woman), eating well, and in good spirits. She even finished the David Eggers’ book she’s been working on for the last couple of weeks.

Please do send suggestions (to this comment section) for music that you think she may enjoy or (possibly) guided meditation audiobooks that would be helpful.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

*hugs*
