January 28

Jules had a good night of sleep, mostly because the DH staff is alleviating some of the symptoms of her mouth ulcers. She looks much more rested today, was able to talk without the same level of pain, and was even disconnected from her chemo long enough to take a shower (she’s been giving herself a sponge bath with what sounds like some sort of medical gel).

We have confirmation that she’s a snorer, though. The nursing staff was so bewildered by the thundering noise coming from her room that they ended up giving her oxygen throughout the night. (Again, this is probably typical of heavy snorers.) Before she left I had a waking dream that she was a volcano of snores. (I mostly tickle her nose to get back to sleep.)

Today is her last day of chemo and we’re buckling in for the nadir phase (on this round) and restful recovery!

Thank you all for the notes of love and support. Jules has really enjoyed your music suggestions. They have put a recumbent bike of some sort in her room so she sits on it, grooves to the music you’ve sent, and imagines riding up the coast of Maine. Please keep the good sounds coming!

Also please remember that cards or gift packages can be sent to:

Room Number 113

Mail is very slow / strange, but she appreciates getting your messages from the larger world. (A reminder that she can’t receive plants or balloons. We will need to figure out how much – if any – gardening she can do when she gets back. She’s already told me opportunistically that she can no longer be our designated Alvin poop picker-upper).

Love you all and thank you again for your support!
