Hey all!
As we near the final countdown (for real) to my admission for pre-treatment and my bone marrow transplant, we wanted to share some awesome news: after my 7th bone marrow biopsy last week, we were told today that I AM STILL IN REMISSION! The doctors still feel “very confident” that this will be a successful cure for me. We couldn’t have asked for better news today! π
Another fabulous milestone achieved at Camp Kickass!
Now we focus on continued walking, rest, packing, and prepping for the four+ week stay. And most important: we sing sweet, sweet songs to the Universe in support of and thanks to my German friend. He goes in on June 28 and 29 to share his gift of life and then the cells will be frozen and flown to DHMC. Woo-hoo!

A Brief Intermission
This has always been a favorite song, and it may seem an odd choice in light of so much hope. I’ve come to see this song through new eyes: the Brokedown Palace is not ME, but my malfunctioning marrow / blood operating system. When I receive the new cells, I will be reborn as the new blood moves through my entire body. Home is no longer death – it’s the promise of life and where I will literally rest my bones as I recover (I won’t be able to go into a store or order takeout for six months, so “home” is my new world). And the willow tree I’ll plant in honor of my German friend. Although I’m happy to bid my old blood good-bye, it served me well for nearly 48 years and it feels important to honor that. Fare thee well.
Many of you have asked if there is anything we need, and we appreciate the support already! In a few weeks, we’ll share a few links of options, and we’re always accepting good vibes, prayers, and well wishes. We feel strongly they (meaning you) have played a critical part of this journey so far. Thank YOU!!!
This will be the last blog post from me until I’m back home in late July or August, but I leave you in the good hands of our initial narrator, Randy (my poet warrior priest). And also: a countdown clock! π Cheers! – Julie
